Enrollment

Welcome to the Virtual Academy (we are not completely Virtual). We are thankful that you have expressed interest in our school. All programs offered at the Virtual Academy are provided through Independent Studies. This means that per Education Code 51747 and Board Policy 6158, a learning agreement must be signed by the teacher(s), parent/guardian, and student. Please note that the Independent Study Program is a rigorous alternate option to in-person schooling.

While daily instruction is virtual, students will be required to attend in-person, proctored testing sessions, field trips, and other in-person events throughout the school year. There will be a minimum of 10 in-person days for students for various activities.

A scholar's success is based on ongoing participation (completion of assignments), collaboration, and communication amongst the teacher(s), guardian, and student. All students and guardians are required to attend an in-person orientation and sign an agreement to attend Virtual Academy. Students must make satisfactory educational progress to remain in the Virtual Academy.

The following is the general enrollment process for Virtual Academy:

  1. Begin by joining the 2025-2026 Interest List
  2. After submitting the form, a Virtual Academy staff member will contact you to provide additional information and help determine if our program is the right fit for your child.
  3. If Virtual Academy is a good fit, you will be invited to a required in-person orientation. During this session, you will review the program details and sign the learning agreement. If your student requires a device, a San Bernardino City Unified School District (SBCUSD) device will be provided.

  4. Transfer Facilitation: Virtual Academy staff will work directly with your child's current school of residence to facilitate the transfer process. Your child must continue to attend their current in-person school until their transfer to Virtual Academy is fully complete.

Transfer Policy: Please note that transfers to Virtual Academy are generally only permitted at the start of trimesters and are subject to space availability once the school year begins. After the third trimester commences, transfers will no longer be approved for the current school year. Additionally, students must maintain good attendance  and make satisfactory progress while enrolled at Virtual Academy to remain in the program.

The Virtual Academy Learning Agreement can be viewed here. Please note, this is a sample of the agreement and will be signed during the enrollment process.
