Enrollment

Welcome to the Virtual Academy (we are not completely Virtual). We are thankful that you have expressed interest in our school. All programs offered in the Virtual Academy are offered through Independent Studies. This means that per Education Code 51747 and Board Policy 6158 a learning agreement must be signed by the teacher(s), parent/guardian and student. Please note that the Independent Study Program is a rigorous alternate option to in person schooling.

While daily instruction is virtual, students will be required to attend in-person, proctored testing sessions, field trips, and other in person events throughout the school year. The testing calendar will be shared at the start of the year.

Students must make satisfactory educational progress to remain in the Virtual Academy.

A scholars' success is based on ongoing participation (completion of assignments), collaboration and communication amongst the teacher(s), guardian and student. All students and guardians are required to attend an in-person orientation and sign an agreement to attend Virtual Academy.

Educational Programs

Elementary- TK-5

Middle School- Grades 6th-8th

High School

9-12 Online Virtual Learning-A to G eligible only

High School classes are an online-based instructional program through Edmentum. This option is not Teacher Led.

Daily instructional support with a teacher based on the Edmentum online course
Daily office hours with a teacher
Tutoring and Individual support are available
Parent Supervision to ensure students remain on track
Students must complete assigned work following the pacing of the Edmentum Program
Six classes per semester

Traditional Independent Studies

K-8th and 10th-12th Traditional Independent Studies

The traditional Independent Studies program is a short-term program for students through K-12th. This program is ideal for students who are (but are not limited to):

traveling
experiencing illness
struggling with mental wellness- The district has a dedicated team to help support scholars who support the health and wellness of students. Visit the Student Wellness and Support Services page to learn more.

About this program:

The Independent Studies program uses district-adopted textbooks and digital curricula to support student learning in the short term. It is:

Independent learning with weekly teacher support/meetups

K-8th Independent Studies is based on a parent/teacher partnership with a parent as the primary instructor—weekly meetings with the teacher, parent, and student—traditional trimester/semester pacing.

10th-12th Independent Studies are based on independent learning with the parent as the primary supervisor. There are weekly meetings between the teacher and student. Scholars follow a block schedule and take three classes at a time.
