Dear Students, Parents, and Guardians:
Welcome to Alternative Learning Center, Independent Study! Our goal is to develop intellectually capable students who with the help and support of their family, take responsibility for learning and achieve their greatest potential. With your help, we can achieve this goal.
The Alternative Learning Center’s curriculum is the foundation that will prepare all of our students for future endeavors. To achieve this, parents, guardians, and students sign a contract to ensure the commitment and understanding of the responsibilities that are accepted when enrolling in this independent study program. Our program is run on a home school model; the key component is parental supervision and input. We have listened to our community and have designed a program where parents/guardians have the over sight of their own child’s education.
The Alternative learning Center provides weekly school assignment printouts that enable the parent to be aware of every assignment, expectation, and learning activity. No more will there be confusion as to the expectations or assignments that are to be completed for success in school. Parents are able to maximize the student’s potential by dedicating time and support to the student within the parameters of the home. In addition, parents are included in the weekly meetings with the teachers (mandatory for elementary and middle school students). Parents can also communicate with their child’s teachers via email or phone calls each week. I would like parents to take advantage of these opportunities so that everyone will know how students are doing on a weekly basis regarding grades, expectations, and behavior.
In an effort to provide a safe learning environment, we, in conjunction with the San Bernardino City Unified School District, and in accordance with the State of California Education Code, have assembled a “Code of Conduct. “ The rules and regulations contained in this code are in effect and govern the behavior of students while on school grounds during school hours, off campus during school hours, at school sponsored functions, or while being transported to or from school activities. Please take some time to read this valuable information and familiarize yourself and your child with the information.
Again, welcome to the Alternative Learning Center. I look forward to meeting you and your child.
Sincerely,
Robyn L. Eberhardt
